Microsoft to patch critical Windows 7 bug in ‘upside down’ update next week


Microsoft has said that “It will release four security updates to patch four vulnerabilities in windows. These vulnerabilities affects only Windows Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2.” Hackers utilized malicious code to inject virus in computer systems. Andrew Storms, director of security operations has said that “This month looks upside down and New operating systems are more affected  than older ones.”The four updates will be released on Nov. 8.

Fake virus warning from company IT department brings real malware


An email which appears to be coming from a company’s IT department has been identified with malware. The email is targeted at the user of various major IT companies. The mail contains warning of a computer virus and infection on users computer and asks them to download the anti-virus for the removal. Once downloaded from the link in the mail, the Trojan virus infects the computer rapidly.

Virus Bulletin news tweets spread malware


Malware spreaders are using news tweets and news thread links to spread the malware. According to Bitdefender, one such link was identified, the link leads to a page containing downloader Trojan virus VB2011.exe. The virus downloads another executable installation file (installation.exe). Once installed it infects the victims computer spreading adware, gameware and adult content and the virus is hard to identify and spreads rapidly.

German Trojan horse program may be actively spying on citizens


The German Hacker group, Chaos Computer Club has revealed that the virus called Federal Trojan Horse is being used by the Government authorities for spying. The virus is capable of key logging, activating webcam, monitoring usage activities and sending the detailed information back to government officials through U.S based server to cover its track, for spying. The German Government Officials have not yet commented on the allegations.

American drones compromised by virus


The Computers controlling the U.S Air Force’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Drones are hit malware. The malware is identified as key logger virus. It has infected several computers used by pilots to control the Predator and Reaper Drones. The virus was identified earlier and removed by the United States Military’s host-based security system, but failed to erase it completely, as it appears to reoccur and re-infect the system. The U.S Security is planning to rebuild the system from base.

Android virus receiving orders from encrypted blog


Trend Micro Security researcher have new Android virus, which receives instructions from the encrypted blog. The malicious software, ANDROIDOS_ANSERVER.A, is capable of stealing the information from android phone and sends it to remote servers. The Android malware appears to be e-book application. The malware was identified in the third party Chinese languages application store. Security firm has so far identified 18 variants of the Android malware.

Idaho laboratory analyzed Stuxnet computer virus


Idaho Laboratory and Department of Home Land Security (DHS) have analyzed the Stuxnet computer virus. The virus was made to run on actual control system equipment to study the effects of the virus and release the mitigation measures. Stuxnet is a sophisticated virus mainly targeting the industrial control systems. Most of industrial systems are susceptible to Stuxnet.

Chinese firm discovers BIOS-based virus


Chinese security firm has identified the virus which attacks the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) of the computer. The BMW virus infects the chain BIOS effecting the Motherboard chip program, Master boot drive (MBR), Microsoft Windows system files. The Mebromi virus cannot be eliminated, with formatting, changing the hard drive. The virus is mostly effective on the Motherboard using the “Award” BIOS. It continues to reoccur even after removing the infected files.

NY cops: Bogus speeding ticket email carries virus


New York State police has warned the citizen’s email containing virus, which appears to be a notice of speeding ticket. The mails appears to be delivered from Department of Motor Vehicles, containing an attached zip file, with subject line of “Uniform Traffic Ticket”, the zip file contains the virus. State police Sgt. Kern Svoboda cautioned the public not to open the file and reports of the email are coming from across the country.

Malware virus hits MetService website


MetService website has been hit by a computer virus from a hidden malware in the online advertisement of the website. MetService officials said that they came to know about the virus last night and immediately shutdown the server that hosted the advertisement containing hidden malware on its website. Some user who visited the website has reported that they are infected by a virus called Protection Shield Pro.
