Security analysis of mobile banking apps reveals significant weaknesses


A security analysis of mobile banking apps for iOS devices from 60 financial institutions around the world has revealed that many were vulnerable to various attacks and exposed sensitive information.Ariel Sanchez, a consultant at security firm IOActive, analyzed how the banking apps communicate with servers, how they store data locally, whether they were compiled with security options, what information they expose through logs and whether they have vulnerabilities in their code.

FireEye buys Mandiant for nearly $1 billion to stamp out cyber attacks


FireEye, a major enterprise security company, is hoping to better shield its customers from cyberattacks through its acquisition of privately held Mandiant for nearly US$1 billion.FireEye is already a big seller of security services designed to identify and thwart Web, email, cloud and mobile attacks.

SonicWALL launches Mobile Connect app for iOS


SonicWALL has launched its Mobile Connect Application that enables secure remote access and connectivity from Apple devices which include iPad and iPhone. The Application provides users “VPN on Demand” and encrypts traffic whenever users try to access protected internal resources. Mobile Connect users communicate through a SonicWALL firewall.

Samsung dual-core Exynos 5250 mobile chip test units shipped


Samsung has launched its latest dual-core Exynos 5250 mobile chip based on ARM’s new Cortex-A15 processor design. It runs at a clock speed of 2GHz and the chip’s 3D graphics processing capabilities are four times better, while cutting power consumption compared to current mobile chips. ARM processors are used in most smartphones and tablets today, including Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Samsung is one of the first companies to publicly announce a chip with Cortex-A15 processors.

New mobile security challenges


Analysts have predicted that most users are often use new technologies without replacing the old. Multiple devices on multiple platforms make securing several platforms but it is also a complex task. Windows XP is still the favorite of cyber criminals. Some advanced threats, such as “Spitmo” target European banks’ authentication systems. For now, tablet banking (using encrypted WiFi) is probably the safest platform available.

Twitter scoops up mobile security developer Whisper Systems


Twitter may be preparing to impove its mobile security options with the attainment of Whisper Systems which offers security products for Android phones. Software from Whisper systems offers full disk encryption and other security software for smartphones that run on Android. Other Whisper Systems products include text encryption, voice encryption, firewall software and encrypted backup.

Security Alert for iTunes Users, Mobile or Stationary


Apple iTunes offers application and music downloads onto laptops, PCs, notebooks, tablets and mobile phones that uses user friendly operating systems. Some software vulnerabilities existed in iTunes but did nothing to fix it until earlier this month. British agencies, government entities – used FinFisher to hack intelligence targets’ computers. It was strongly recommended that install the authorized software in iTunes that includes the fix.

SharkScope Releases Mobile Apps for iPhone and Android


Sharkscope has launched mobile phone versions of its software for the iPhone and Android. The new applications named iScope and aScope provide direct connections to the normal Sharkscope service. The iScope app is available at the iTunes store for $4.99 and some of the connectivity problems were fixed in the latest version. The aScope application is exclusively used for Android mobile phones.
