Microsoft Releases Xbox Live App for iPhone and iPad


Microsoft has announced the release of an official Xbox Live app for iPhone and iPad. This is the first time Microsoft has directly supported a competitor’s product with Xbox Live. Xbox Live hub on Windows Phone 7 features include Avatar’s outfit, update your friends list, edit your live profile and view or compare achievements. Windows Phone 7 still has a major advantage in that its games can actually integrate with Live.

Google, Oracle surpass Microsoft in vulnerabilities, study shows


Google has reported 82 vulnerabilities in Google Chrome, Oracle had the second most vulnerabilities, with 63 and Microsoft was third, with 58. Cyber criminals targeted major companies and institutions in over 60 countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine. They started over 300 malware campaigns to access confidential data by taking control of affected computers.

Symantec cloud security to support Microsoft Lync


Symantec provides cloud-based security service to its latest instant messaging client called, Lync that can do anti-malware filtering and use security controls for blocking unsuitable content. Symantec senior product manager, Nick Emanuel has said that “Symantec cloud-based service does not require agent software or any kind of application on the customer premises.”

Microsoft to Streamline Windows 8′s Patch Process


Microsoft has released Windows 8′s patch that can reduce the number of distracting restarts and interact with the upcoming operating system. Chief technology officer, Wolfgang Kandek has said that “Streamlining the update effort and the better messaging is smart.” Security experts, who have criticized updating practices in the past, congratulated the changes.

Students Hack Microsoft’s Kinect to Assist the Visually Impaired


University of Pennsylvania students Eric Berdinis and Jeff Kiske, have hacked Microsoft’s Kinect to Assist the visually Impaired and a number of vibration actuators. The students were asked to develop a medical device for their embedded systems class. So they developed Kinecthesia camera system that detects the location and depth of objects using Kinect sensor.

Protection against Duqu malware


Microsoft has identified a new vulnerability which exists in windows TrueType Font Parsing Engine and affects windows based operation systems. Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and some other file formats uses TrueType fonts that contains malicious files. Microsoft has released a fixlt tool that disables access to the system file T2embed.dll to avoid TrueType font processing.

Microsoft issues workaround for Duqu attack


Microsoft has released a piece of malicious software which is used by Duqu. It was tested by security researchers. Microsoft is working on win 32k True type font parsing engine which is used in operating systems. Researchers from the Laboratory of Cryptography and System Security (CrySyS) has discovered a installer file which uses windows vulnerability. Costin G. Raiu has said that “Testing the modification and patches will take a lot of time.”

Microsoft to Host Unveiling of New Windows Phone Handsets


Microsoft will be released Windows Phone Handsets in next year on all major U.S carriers. It’s possible that some of  Microsoft’s newest manufacturing partners such as Lenovo and ZTE may reveal their first windows based  phones. Strategy Analytics  predicted that Microsoft will double its market share next year in Europe. Images of  Windows phone have recently appeared on a Chinese website.

Microsoft to patch critical Windows 7 bug in ‘upside down’ update next week


Microsoft has said that “It will release four security updates to patch four vulnerabilities in windows. These vulnerabilities affects only Windows Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2.” Hackers utilized malicious code to inject virus in computer systems. Andrew Storms, director of security operations has said that “This month looks upside down and New operating systems are more affected  than older ones.”The four updates will be released on Nov. 8.
