Security firm, McAfee has reported that “Apple iOS beat Android as a safer environment, but no mobile device is free from risk.” One reason iOS is more secure is because Apple restricts the way users can download apps. Apple’s single App Store is also tightly controlled, leading to a safer and more secure environment. McAfee sees a different approach between Apple and Google in combating malware.

Blackberry-maker Research in Motion(RIM) has launched management software for devices running on Google Android, Apple and Blackberry operating systems. Vice-president of enterprise product management and marketing at RIM, Alan Panezic has said that “Blackberry Mobile Fusion uses Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) technology to manage multiple OS platforms from one web-based console.

Apple has released iOS 5.1 beta for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, which developers can download from the Apple developer portal. The new version represents the first significant update to iOS 5 . iOS 5.1 includes better dictation support for third-party apps and it would bring extra features to Siri in the form of hardware controls, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios through the iPhone 4S voice assistant.

Google relaunched its Gmail application for Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Google program manager, Matthew Izatt has said that “They fixed the bug and the application is back in the App store and warned the users to delete or log out of the existing Gmail application before installing the new version and it will not display an error message related to notifications.”

Apple released iOS 5.0.1 version which is designed to patch some unspecified bugs that exhausted the iPhone’s battery much faster than expected. This was the first updated version that Apple delivered to connect devices to a Windows PC or Mac. Apple patched five vulnerabilities and also canceled the digital certificates of a Malaysian certificate authority (CA).

Charlie Miller, a Mac hacker has revealed a security hole in iOS due to which he lost Apple Developer Program license in the process. He tested an exception that allows the browser to run unsigned code in memory which is introduced from iOS 4.3 onwards. Charlie revealed the problem using his Instastock application which contains no malicious code and was approved by the App Store.

Apple is getting the court orders to stop the sale of Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet in Australia. Apple wants to stop the sale of the Smartphone until the legal proceedings between the two companies over the technology, design of the phone are resolved. Mean while Samsung is planning to launch the new and upgraded version of Smartphone in Netherlands. Apple has already managed stop the sale of Galaxy 10.1 in Germany by ruling out a court order in September.

Apple has launched the iOS5 and upgraded the Lion. The iOS5 runs on all the Apple devices. It powers the new launched iPhone 4s model, and also runs on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPad 2, 2009 and 2010 editions of iPod touch. Apple has also introduced the Mac OS X 10.7.2 for the Mac users. The iOS 5 does not have SIRI voice activated agent software. The iOS updates include iMessage, in-app notification, and tighter integration of micro blogging services for better performance.

Apple has released security updates to its iTunes for Windows based operating system. The new 10.5 edition fixes all the 79 flaws in Windows edition. These security patches are effective to Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. Apple is also about launch the updates to its Lion OS and added iCloud connectivity to the feature to the new Mac OS X. The 10.5 version is available for download from Apple’s website.
